Geometric cluster Monte Carlo simulation
We discuss a cluster Monte Carlo algorithm for lattice models, based on geometric transformations. We prove detailed balance when the transformation is self-inverse, and a symmetry of the Hamiltonian. This algorithm opens new possibilities, in particular for the efficient simulation of critical model systems, where the Metropolis method suffers from critical slowing down. We illustrate the gene...
متن کاملCluster hybrid Monte Carlo simulation algorithms.
We show that addition of Metropolis single spin flips to the Wolff cluster-flipping Monte Carlo procedure leads to a dramatic increase in performance for the spin-1/2 Ising model. We also show that adding Wolff cluster flipping to the Metropolis or heat bath algorithms in systems where just cluster flipping is not immediately obvious (such as the spin-3/2 Ising model) can substantially reduce t...
متن کاملMegavoltage dose enhancement of gold nanoparticles for different geometric set-ups: Measurements and Monte Carlo simulation
Background: Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) have been shown as a good radiosensitizer. In combination with radiotherapy, several studies with orthovoltage X-rays have shown considerable dose enhancement effects. This paper reports the dose enhancement factor (DEF) due to GNPs in 18 megavoltage (MV) beams. Materials and Methods: Different geometrical 50-nm GNPs configurations at a concentrati...
متن کاملGeometric Optimization of Concentrating Solar Collectors using Monte Carlo Simulation
This paper presents an optimization algorithm for designing linear concentrating solar collectors using stochastic programming. A Monte Carlo technique is used to quantify the performance of the collector design in terms of an objective function, which is then minimized using a modified Kiefer-Wolfowitz algorithm that uses sample size and step size controls. This process is more efficient than ...
متن کاملMicrocanonical Cluster Monte Carlo
I propose a numerical simulation algorithm for statistical systems which combines a microcanonical transfer of energy with global changes in clusters of spins. The advantages of the cluster approach near a critical point augment the speed increases associated with multi-spin coding in the mi-crocanonical approach. The method also provides a limited ability to tune the average cluster size.
